Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has set a new world record by holding a press conference that lasted nearly 15 hours straight. According to an official statement from his office released on Sunday, the event lasted 14 hours and 54 minutes, breaking the previous record held by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The press conference began at 10:00 am local time (0500 GMT) on Saturday and went on past midnight. Despite short breaks for prayers, President Muizzu continued to answer questions from journalists throughout the entire duration.
“This was the longest continuous press conference ever held by a sitting president,” his office noted in the statement. The event was designed to ensure transparency and direct communication with the media and public.
Before this, the record for the longest presidential press conference was held by Zelensky, who spoke for 14 hours in October 2019. Prior to Zelensky, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had held the record with a session that went on for over seven hours.
President Muizzu, who is 46 years old, used this opportunity to address a wide range of issues and respond to dozens of questions, showcasing his commitment to open dialogue.
