India to Slash Tariffs on U.S. Goods as Trump, White House Slam Unfair Trade Practices

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that India is planning to significantly reduce tariffs on American goods once a new system of reciprocal taxation begins on April 2. He criticized India for imposing very high duties, saying American products barely get access to their market. However, he added that India has now agreed to lower these tariffs because the issue is finally being addressed.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also slammed several countries for what she called “unfair trade practices” that harm American workers. She highlighted steep tariffs on U.S. products—50% on dairy from the EU, 700% on rice from Japan, 100% on agricultural goods from India, and nearly 300% on butter and cheese from Canada—saying these countries have taken advantage of the U.S. for too long.
