External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that India is working closely with the Trump administration to resolve ongoing tariff issues. Speaking at the Rising Bharat Summit, he mentioned that India is engaging in direct discussions with the U.S. to reach a mutual agreement on tariffs. Jaishankar highlighted that in the past six weeks, India has had more conversations with the U.S. than with all of Europe over the last few years, showing the seriousness of the ongoing trade talks.
He added that while it’s too early to predict the full impact of the reciprocal tariffs, India is likely the only country with which the U.S. has a broad understanding since Trump took office. Jaishankar emphasized that both nations are maintaining a constructive and open approach. India’s goal is to negotiate a trade agreement by the fall, and efforts are continuing in that direction through consistent dialogue.
