China Urges U.S. to Scrap All Tariffs, Calls for Respectful Trade Ties

China’s Commerce Ministry has urged the United States to fully withdraw its reciprocal tariffs, following Washington’s recent move to exempt smartphones, laptops, and other electronics from additional duties. The ministry expressed that while the exemption is a positive sign, it’s not enough to fix the broader trade tensions.

A spokesperson from the ministry stated that the U.S. should make a significant move to reverse what China views as unfair trade practices. They emphasized the need for the U.S. to abandon the tariff strategy altogether and work towards a more respectful and cooperative trade relationship.

A top official from China’s Customs Department said the country will firmly enforce all legal actions necessary to counter the U.S. and protect its national sovereignty and security.

China’s Customs Deputy Director-General said that despite U.S. tariffs and interference, trade between the two countries still grew by 4%.
