China Refuses U.S. Tariff Talk Claims, Says No Negotiations Are Happening

China has firmly rejected claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that tariff talks between the two countries are currently underway. The Chinese Foreign Ministry clarified that no such negotiations are taking place, calling the U.S. statements “misleading.”

This disagreement adds more confusion to already tense trade relations, with both sides still locked in a costly tariff battle. The U.S. has imposed 145% tariffs on a wide range of Chinese goods, while China has hit back with 125% duties on select U.S. imports.

In a recent statement, Beijing said that progress on trade can only happen if the U.S. removes all one-sided tariffs. They also urged the U.S. to follow fair rules and respect mutual interests.

At a top-level policy meeting held on Friday, Chinese officials said they are committed to helping local businesses that are struggling due to what they described as “external shocks.” Reports also suggest that China may temporarily ease some tariffs on U.S. goods like medical equipment and industrial chemicals to protect its own industries from further damage.

The situation highlights the ongoing strain between the world’s two biggest economies, with no clear path to resolution in sight.
