China Halts Boeing Deliveries Amid Rising U.S. Tariffs: Bloomberg

China has instructed its airlines to stop accepting new deliveries of Boeing aircraft, marking a sharp escalation in the U.S.-China trade dispute. This decision follows recent U.S. tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese goods, introduced under President Trump’s administration.

In a further blow to American aviation firms, Chinese carriers have also been told to suspend purchases of aircraft parts and equipment from U.S. suppliers. These directives were revealed by sources familiar with the matter, according to a report by Bloomberg.

China has expanded its trade retaliation by blocking all deliveries of Boeing aircraft to its airlines, including the popular 737 MAX series. Alongside this, Chinese carriers have been told to stop buying aircraft parts and equipment from American companies.

To reduce the financial strain on airlines already leasing Boeing planes, Beijing is considering offering support measures. This move comes months after China added Boeing’s defense unit to its export control list, citing national security reasons. The latest action adds serious pressure to the already tense U.S.-China trade relationship and could have ripple effects across the global aviation industry.

China’s recent order may delay the delivery of around 10 Boeing 737 Max planes meant for airlines like China Southern, Air China, and Xiamen Airlines. These jets are either in Seattle or Zhoushan. However, a few may still be delivered if the final documents were completed before April 12.

Donald Trump has accused China of backing out of a major Boeing aircraft deal and criticized the country for treating American farmers unfairly. He said the U.S. will take strong steps to protect its farmers, calling China’s actions “brutal.”
