Air India Asks Government for Help as Airspace Ban Could Cost $600 Million

Air India has asked the Indian government for financial support after warning that the ongoing ban on using Pakistan’s airspace could lead to huge losses. The airline says it may lose almost $600 million in one year if the ban continues. This is because its long international flights to Europe and North America are now taking longer routes, which use more fuel and increase costs.

To deal with this, Air India wants the government to provide subsidies to cover some of the extra expenses. The airline has also requested approval to use more crew members on these longer flights, since extended flight times require additional staff for safety and rest.

The government is looking into different ways to help, including tax relief and finding better alternate routes. Officials say they are aware of the impact and are working with Air India to reduce the pressure caused by the ban.

This issue started when Pakistan blocked its airspace for Indian flights, forcing them to take longer paths. As of now, there is no clear end in sight, and Air India hopes the government will step in soon.
