USA Restricts China’s Access to AI and Quantum Computing Technology<\/strong>
In its first major move under the Donald Trump administration, the United States has placed dozens of Chinese technology firms on its export blacklist. This decision is part of a broader strategy to limit Beijing\u2019s progress in artificial intelligence, advanced computing, and quantum technologies.
The U.S. Department of Commerce\u2019s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced the addition of 80 entities to its \u201centity list,\u201d with more than 50 from China. American companies are now barred from supplying these entities without obtaining special government permits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why Were These Chinese Firms Blacklisted?<\/strong>
The U.S. government stated that these companies were acting against national security and foreign policy interests. The move aims to curb China’s advancements in exascale computing\u2014a technology capable of processing massive amounts of data at extremely high speeds\u2014and quantum computing.
27 entities were blacklisted for allegedly acquiring U.S.-origin technology to support China\u2019s military modernization.
Seven companies were added for aiding China\u2019s quantum technology research.
Two firms were accused of supplying restricted technologies to Huawei and its chip-making affiliate, HiSilicon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
