Tesla’s future remains bright, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, who reaffirmed his Outperform rating on the stock with a $550 price target. However, Ives warns that Tesla is facing a critical moment, largely due to CEO Elon Musk’s recent actions.

Ives believes Musk’s personal brand damage and heavy involvement with Dogecoin (DOGE) have created a “brand tornado crisis” for Tesla. The global backlash, including vandalism at Tesla dealerships and social movements against Musk, has become a major overhang for the stock.

The Root of the Problem: Musk’s Priorities

For years, Musk has been synonymous with Tesla, guiding it through numerous challenges and transforming it into one of the world’s most valuable companies. But Ives argues that since former President Donald Trump returned to the White House, Musk has been spending too much time on DOGE and not enough as Tesla’s CEO.

The situation escalated when Trump bought a Tesla at the White House, turning the company into an even bigger political flashpoint. While it was a great political moment, it did nothing to solve Tesla’s brand and demand crisis, Ives noted.

Two Moves Musk Must Make to Reverse Tesla’s Brand Damage

Ives outlined two critical steps Musk must take in the coming months to shift the narrative and protect Tesla’s future:

1. Balance DOGE and Tesla CEO Role

Musk must publicly commit to focusing on Tesla while balancing his involvement with DOGE.

Investors and customers need reassurance that he is still fully committed to leading Tesla.

Ives expects Musk to address this issue during Tesla’s Q1 earnings call in May.

2. Announce Roadmap for Affordable EVs and Full Self-Driving (FSD) Rollout

Tesla must provide clear details on its next-generation, lower-cost EVs launching in 2025.

The company must also stay on track for the unsupervised FSD launch in Austin in June.

This will rebuild investor confidence and shift the conversation back to Tesla’s innovation.

Wedbush Still Bullish on Tesla—But Change Is Needed

Despite the turmoil, Wedbush remains optimistic about Tesla’s long-term potential, citing its leadership in autonomous driving, FSD, and robotics (Optimus). However, Ives warns that if Musk doesn’t take action soon, Tesla could suffer permanent brand damage.

“The future of Tesla depends on Musk changing course,” Ives concluded.

Tesla’s future remains bright, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, who reaffirmed his Outperform rating on the stock with a $550 price target.
