Passenger vehicle wholesales in India declined by 1 per cent year-on-year in September, with 3,56,752 units dispatched to dealers. In comparison, the dispatches for September 2023 stood at 3,61,717 units, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The latest sales data from SIAM, released on October 14, highlighted a significant decline in passenger vehicle sales during the second quarter of FY25. SIAM president Shailesh Chandra attributed this decline to various factors, including a high base effect from last year, the Shraddh period, and heavy rainfall.
Despite the drop in passenger vehicle sales, total two-wheeler sales saw a strong 16 per cent year-on-year growth, rising to 20,25,993 units in September, compared to 17,49,794 units in the same month last year.
Similarly, three-wheeler wholesales increased by 7 per cent, reaching 79,683 units in September, compared to 74,671 units in the previous year. Chandra also mentioned that the passenger vehicle industry is expected to grow by “sub 5 per cent” in the financial year 2024-25 (FY25).
