Oilfield services company Halliburton announced on Friday that an unauthorized third party had accessed some of its systems. The company discovered the breach two days earlier and immediately started an internal investigation. To protect its systems, Halliburton took certain systems offline.
The company activated its cybersecurity response plan, working with both internal teams and external experts to address the issue. They also informed law enforcement about the breach. Halliburton’s ongoing efforts include restoring its systems and evaluating the impact of the incident.
Despite the breach, the U.S. Department of Energy confirmed on Thursday that there has been no disruption to energy services. Halliburton continues to investigate and address the situation.
Halliburton, based in Houston, Texas, is one of the world’s largest oilfield services companies, providing drilling services and equipment to major energy producers globally. By the end of last year, it had nearly 48,000 employees and operated in more than 70 countries.
