2 Killed in Shooting Outside Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.

Two people have been killed in a shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., sparking outrage and heightened security in the area.

According to Israel’s ambassador to the United States, employees of the Israeli embassy are among those killed. The ambassador has condemned the incident as an “act of anti-Semitic terrorism.”

Local and federal law enforcement agencies have secured the scene, and a full-scale investigation is underway. Authorities have yet to confirm the motive or details about the suspected shooter.

Security has been tightened around other Jewish institutions in the city as a precaution.

Two staff members of the Israeli Embassy were shot at close range while attending a Jewish event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. The shooting has been confirmed by Tal Naim Cohen, the Israeli Embassy’s spokeswoman, who stated that they trust both local and federal law enforcement to investigate the case and ensure the safety of Israeli officials and Jewish communities across the U.S.

According to multiple reports, after the shooting, a man entered the museum asking for water and a safe place. Witnesses say he then pulled out a keffiyeh scarf and shouted “Free Palestine” before being taken away by police. NBC also reported that the gunman shouted the same phrase while being arrested outside the museum.

Washington Police Chief Shares Updates on Museum Shooting

The Washington Police Chief said the suspect was seen pacing outside the museum just before the shooting took place. He was later detained by event security on the spot. While in custody, the suspect reportedly shouted “Free, Free Palestine.”

According to the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, the victims were a young couple who were recently engaged. He also mentioned that he spoke with former President Donald Trump following the incident.

The Police Chief confirmed that her department had not received any prior intelligence or warning about a possible terrorist threat or hate crime before the shooting. The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez.
