South Korea will lift its five-year ban on short-selling stocks from March 31. The decision follows improvements in market conditions and new rules to ensure fair trading. The ban was reimposed in November 2023 to address illegal trades, but authorities have since introduced measures to monitor the market and promote fairness between investors. Institutional investors will be allowed to short-sell if they meet new requirements. Some stocks will be protected from extreme price swings during the first two months.
