SEBI has increased the disclosure threshold for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) from Rs 25,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore. This means that only FPIs holding more than Rs 50,000 crore in Indian equities will now be required to make additional disclosures.
The decision was taken in a SEBI board meeting on Monday, citing the sharp rise in cash equity market trading volumes. Since FY 2022-23, when the previous limit was set, trading volumes have more than doubled.
These disclosures help ensure compliance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and related regulations. SEBI had issued a circular on August 24, 2023, regarding this requirement.
