Reliance Launches $15 Billion AI Infrastructure Push

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has officially entered the Artificial Intelligence (AI) race with a massive $12–15 billion investment in AI infrastructure. The company plans to build a 1-gigawatt hyperscale datacenter in Jamnagar, making it one of India’s largest technology infrastructure projects.

Joint Venture with Meta: Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL)

Reliance has formed a new joint venture called Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL) with Meta, which holds a 30% stake. The venture aims to develop enterprise-grade AI services, supported by an initial investment of Rs 855 crore.

REIL will focus on providing AI solutions for businesses across industries, including telecom, retail, finance, and manufacturing.

Datacenter-as-a-Service Model

Reliance plans to underwrite around 25% of the datacenter capacity for its own use, while leasing the remaining infrastructure as “Datacenter as a Service” to hyperscalers such as Meta, Google, and Microsoft Azure. This dual strategy is designed to generate steady long-term revenue while fueling India’s AI ecosystem.

AI Infrastructure and Green Energy Integration

The AI initiative includes two main tracks:

  • Deploying 100-megawatt AI datacenter capacity to handle enterprise AI inference workloads.
  • Building infrastructure to support 100 gigawatts of solar panel capacity for sustainable datacenter operations.

Construction has already started in Jamnagar, and Reliance has also announced a new AI-focused Google Cloud region partnership to enhance its data capabilities.

Valuation and Financial Outlook

According to Morgan Stanley, Reliance’s AI vertical could reach a $30 billion valuation by 2027. The research firm estimates annual revenues of $1.5–1.6 million per megawatt and a return of 11% on initial investments.

This positions Reliance as a key player not only in infrastructure but also in the competitive AI product ecosystem, where it will both collaborate and compete with global giants like Meta and Google.

India’s Role in the Global AI Ecosystem

Reliance’s massive AI investment aligns with India’s goal to become a global AI hub. With its deep integration of data, energy, and enterprise AI solutions, Reliance aims to bring scalable, cost-efficient, and sustainable computing power to Indian and international businesses.
