Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said that President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump had a phone conversation lasting nearly an hour. The discussion covered key global issues, especially Iran and the Middle East.
Putin Stresses Diplomacy on Iran
During the call, Putin emphasized that the Iran situation should only be resolved through diplomatic means. He highlighted the importance of peaceful negotiations.
Ukraine War: Trump Calls for Swift End
Trump raised the issue of the war in Ukraine, urging a quick resolution. Putin responded by saying Russia remains open to talks and is still seeking a negotiated solution. However, he made it clear that Russia will not back down from its core goals and intends to address what it calls the “root causes” of the conflict.
No Plans Yet for In-Person Meeting
Ushakov said there was no serious discussion of a face-to-face meeting between Trump and Putin. Still, both agreed to keep in touch and continue their dialogue.
U.S. Weapons and Peace Talks
The call did not cover the recent suspension of some U.S. weapons deliveries to Ukraine. Ushakov reiterated that Russia sees peace negotiations as a matter between Moscow and Kyiv, and said the U.S. understands this stance.
Zelenskyy Responds
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he hopes to speak with Donald Trump in the coming days about continued U.S. weapons supplies. When asked about the Putin-Trump call, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for a leaders’ meeting aimed at ending the war.
