Pakistan’s Asim Munir Offers U.S. Port Project in Pasni: FT Report

Pakistan Army Chief Proposes U.S.-Backed Port Project

Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, has reportedly approached U.S. officials with a proposal to build and operate a new port in Pasni on the Arabian Sea, according to the Financial Times. The plan aims to give Washington a potential foothold in one of the world’s most strategic and sensitive regions.

Pasni Port Location Near Gwadar and Iran

The Pasni port project would be developed by American investors as a terminal for access to Pakistan’s critical minerals. Pasni is located around 100 miles from Iran and 70 miles from Gwadar, where China has already established a major port under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

High-Level Meeting with U.S. President Trump

The proposal follows a White House meeting in September between General Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and U.S. President Donald Trump. During the meeting, Sharif invited U.S. investment in agriculture, mining, energy, and technology sectors to boost Pakistan’s economy.

Project Excludes Military Use

According to the FT report, the offer was discussed with select U.S. officials and presented to Munir before his meeting with Trump. The blueprint does not include any plan for a U.S. military base at the port. Instead, it focuses on attracting development finance for a new rail network connecting Pasni to Pakistan’s mineral-rich western regions.
