In a major cybersecurity breach, hacker groups linked to Pakistan have targeted multiple Indian defence websites. The group, calling itself Pakistan Cyber Force on X (formerly Twitter), claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Defence Sites Breached
The hackers allegedly gained access to sensitive data from the Military Engineer Services (MES) and the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA). These institutions play a crucial role in India’s defence operations and research.
According to sources, the hackers not only accessed data but also tried to deface websites by posting messages on them. As a precaution, some websites were taken offline to prevent further damage and to conduct a thorough security audit.
More Websites at Risk
The cyber group also attempted to hack the website of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL), a government-owned company under the Ministry of Defence. Officials took the site offline to check for possible data breaches or any other vulnerabilities caused by the attack.
Possible Data Leak
Sources in the Indian defence establishment say the attacks may have exposed login details and other sensitive information related to defence personnel.
Rising Tensions Fuel Attacks
These cyberattacks come shortly after the terror attack in Pahalgam, increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. Experts believe the cyber intrusions are part of a larger strategy to disrupt India’s defence infrastructure and spread fear.
Government Response
The Indian government is now working to strengthen cybersecurity measures and is investigating the full extent of the breach. Officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to protect national security and prevent future attacks.
