Nvidia to Invest $1 Billion in Nokia to Boost AI Networking and 6G Technology

Nvidia Invests $1B in Nokia to Boost AI Networking

Overview of the Deal

Nvidia has announced a major $1 billion investment in Nokia to speed up the development of AI networking and 6G technology. Under the deal, Nvidia will buy about 166 million Nokia shares at $6.01 each, giving it a 2.9% ownership stake in the Finnish telecom giant.

Purpose of the Investment

The partnership aims to combine Nvidia’s AI chips and platforms with Nokia’s telecom software and data center solutions. Nokia will integrate Nvidia’s advanced processors into its 5G and 6G base station software to make networks faster and more efficient.

At the same time, Nvidia plans to explore using Nokia’s data center technology to improve its own AI infrastructure worldwide. The investment supports Nokia’s ongoing transformation toward AI-driven networking and cloud-based systems under its new CEO, Justin Hotard.

Market Reaction

Following the announcement, Nokia shares surged over 25% and were temporarily halted for volatility. The company confirmed that the shares will be delivered to Nvidia in the form of ADRs (American Depositary Receipts). The proceeds from this equity sale will be used to accelerate Nokia’s AI strategy and expand its data center business.

New AI Networking Collaboration

As part of the agreement, both companies will launch a joint initiative called “AI Platform for 6G”, designed to restore America’s leadership in telecommunications. The platform will power the next generation of wireless infrastructure using Nvidia’s newly launched ARC series of AI chips. Nvidia CEO unveiled the ARC product line at the GTC event, confirming that Nokia will adopt Nvidia ARC as the foundation for its future base stations.

T-Mobile Partnership

In addition, T-Mobile US will work with both Nokia and Nvidia to test and deploy AI-RAN (AI-based Radio Access Network) technologies as part of its 6G development process. Field evaluations and testing are expected to begin in 2026.

Conclusion

The $1 billion investment marks a new chapter in the Nvidia-Nokia partnership, combining AI innovation with telecommunication expertise. This collaboration could redefine the global 6G landscape and boost AI-powered networking solutions worldwide.
