Huawei & China Unicom Launch China’s First 10G Broadband Network Powered by 50G PON

In a major leap for internet technology, Huawei and China Unicom have rolled out China’s first-ever 10-gigabit broadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province. This breakthrough network, powered by cutting-edge 50G PON (Passive Optical Network) technology, delivers ultra-fast speeds and exceptionally low latency—setting a new benchmark for home and enterprise internet access.

The upgrade transforms traditional gigabit networks into powerful 10G platforms. Early testing in real environments showed impressive results: one household recorded download speeds of 9,834 Mbps and upload speeds of over 1,000 Mbps, with latency as low as three milliseconds.

This high-speed network has also been deployed in the Xiong’an district, marking the first real-world implementation of 50G PON globally. According to reports, users in Beijing have already accessed 10,000-gigabit broadband services, where download speeds reached 9,340 Mbps and uploads surpassed 6,300 Mbps.

Experts believe the new 10G infrastructure will support next-gen applications such as 8K video streaming, ultra-low-latency cloud gaming, advanced AR/VR experiences, and high-bandwidth industrial uses.

China is simultaneously advancing in other frontier technologies. Researchers in Hong Kong recently introduced an AI-powered 3D food printing system with infrared heating. In a separate development, Chinese scientists unveiled a high-precision laser camera capable of tracking satellites over 100 km away.

With the successful deployment of 10G networks and innovations in AI and imaging, China continues to push the boundaries of future-ready technology.
