Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of Alibaba Group, is expanding rapidly in Southeast Asia to meet the growing demand for AI-powered cloud services.
This week, the company launched its third data center in Malaysia, strengthening its presence in the region. Alibaba Cloud also announced that it will open a second data center in the Philippines by October 2025. These new facilities will offer faster, more reliable cloud computing services to local businesses and developers.
In addition, Alibaba Cloud is setting up a Global Competency Center in Singapore. This center aims to help more than 5,000 businesses and 100,000 developers gain access to advanced AI models. It will play a key role in boosting AI growth in Southeast Asia and across other regions.
During a company event in Singapore, Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu shared a video message, stating, “Globalization is Alibaba Cloud’s long-term strategy.” Wu added that Alibaba will accelerate its global cloud network expansion over the next three years in China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.
To support this strategy, Alibaba plans to invest over $53 billion in AI infrastructure. This massive investment will enhance global cloud services, improve data center capabilities, and promote the adoption of AI across industries.
