Apple Halts In-House Watch Display Efforts, Slashes Display-Engineering Jobs

Apple has abandoned its internal initiative to manufacture watch displays and is reducing its workforce, particularly in display engineering roles, in the US and Asia. The company had previously aimed to develop microLED screens for its watches in-house, as per Bloomberg.

Apple Inc., renowned for its hardware and music offerings, is reorganizing its display engineering division. The majority of the company’s revenue stems from phone products (52.1%), with peripherals (10.5%), computers (10.2%), music support (7.4%), and other services following suit. Sales are geographically diverse, with substantial contributions from the Americas (43%) and China (18.8%).

Apple is discontinuing a lengthy project aimed at designing and producing its own smartwatch displays, marking the conclusion of another costly research and development venture.

In the past few weeks, the company has halted internal endeavors to develop screens utilizing microLED technology, as per individuals familiar with the situation. These displays, renowned for their enhanced brightness and vivid visuals, were intended for integration into a forthcoming iteration of the Apple Watch, with potential expansion into other product lines.
