The Adani Group has secured a significant contract to supply 6,600 MW of hybrid solar and thermal power to the state of Maharashtra. This contract was awarded by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), marking a significant development in the state’s power supply landscape.

Major Solar Power Agreement

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), the renewable energy arm of the Adani Group, has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with MSEDCL to supply 5 GW (5000 MW) of solar power. This agreement represents one of the world’s largest solar power supply deals since 2020. The power will be generated from Adani’s renewable energy park, currently under development in Khavda, Kutch district, Gujarat.

Thermal Power Supply

In addition to solar power, Adani Power Limited, another company within the Adani Group, will supply 1,496 MW of thermal power to Maharashtra. This will be generated through a new ultra-supercritical thermal power project with a capacity of 1,600 MW. The agreement between Adani Power and MSEDCL is also a long-term PPA.

Strategic Significance for Maharashtra

This partnership between Adani Group and Maharashtra is expected to bolster the state’s industrial power supply, helping it maintain its position as a leading industrial hub. Speaking on the occasion, Anil Sardana, MD of Adani Power, expressed his pride in partnering with Maharashtra, a key industrial state, to ensure a reliable power supply.

Adani Group’s Vision

According to Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy, the agreement with MSEDCL is a critical step towards building a sustainable future. Adani Green is well-positioned to achieve its 50 GW renewable energy target, thanks to its strategic locations, a diverse portfolio of renewable and storage solutions, a robust supply chain, and well-defined evacuation plans.

Largest Solar Power Deal Since 2020

The 5 GW solar power supply agreement between Adani Green and MSEDCL is noteworthy as it is the world’s largest solar power deal since 2020, further solidifying Adani’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.

This massive hybrid power project is expected to play a pivotal role in fulfilling Maharashtra’s growing energy demands while supporting India’s ambitious renewable energy goals.
